How to start a side hustle

I worked for ten years for a big firm. After all that time, I felt bored and demotivated. I liked the job, but I didn’t like the fact that I was working for other people. Nothing wrong with that, except it wasn’t what I had in mind after university. Struggling for a change, I took the CELTA and started a new path. Luckily, teaching has been my side hustle for years.

So, let’s get it straight. A side hustle isn’t about money, even if we work for that. It’s about changing our life, boosting our confidence while saving extra cash, and creating new opportunities at the same time. It’s a hobby that makes money. But to reach our goal, first, we need to understand what a side hustle is. Starting from scratch, we need an idea, and a good one is feasible, profitable, and persuasive.

A feasible idea starts making a profit in a short period, outside of our daily job. It’s something we can turn into reality using the skills, time, and resources that we already have. If not, we better start thinking about something else. In nuce, start a project that earns money in a short period. Two or three years are for investment.

A profitable idea is something easy to explain, quick to make a profit, and easy to build. Everything else can be considered a vision if it’s really good, otherwise, it’s just a waste of time. We should be able to explain the primary benefit of our future business in a couple of sentences, or it will be unclear to our potential customers.

Finally, a feasible, profitable idea is nothing if clients don’t have a hard time saying no. The golden business rule is supply and demand. So, our idea must arrive at the right time, or it can turn into a failure. Better save it for later, and concentrate on ideas that are persuasive now. Timing is essential.
